A Memoir in Archives by Amelia Possanza
I had the great pleasure, this pride month of June, to attend a LIVE FROM NYPL event in the beautiful (and remodeled!) Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in NYC.
The evening was in celebration of the new book “LESBIAN LOVE STORY.” Author Amelia Possanza was interviewed by Casey McQuiston about her process of assembling fragmented information beginning in the 1800’s about lesbians we probably have not heard of. The existing information about them dances around their romantic lives - and Possanza fills in the blanks with the hot stuff likely going on!
Her research is deft and her love for representing the full lives of these gals in the most accurate way possible makes it an honor to read this fascinating and fun book.
Want to know more? Read this NPR interview with Possanza! This book is published by Catapult and you can order it from Goodreads, or whatever your favorite way is to get a work of literature in your hands!
And folks, you can attend all the other pride events Live from NYPL via Zoom or in person. Lovin’ that the library is sharing with everyone outside of the NYC area!
Please do what you do in June, celebrate, advocate, protest, march, dance… Happy Pride 2023.
P.S. You can listen to IN HEAT: A LESBIAN COMEDY PODCAST on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, Stitcher - really, ANYwhere you get your pods!
