Folks, I hope you will celebrate the inaugural episode of IN HEAT, and give it a listen! It will be available on Apple Podcasts – and almost any other place you stream your podcast content this June, 2021!
In the meantime, I simply must tell you about an art exhibit that is in NYC until June 26, 2021. (And if you don’t live in The Big Apple, fingers crossed this exhibit comes to a town near you.)
The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art presents: Laura Aguilar: Show and Tell.
Laura (1959-2018) was a photographer in the Chicanx and queer art scene. Her images focused on her identities as a large-bodied, working-class queer Chicana woman. She is also known for her consideration of subjects such as mental health and equity in the art world.
The exhibit at Leslie-Lohman came to my attention when I read this outstanding article in The New York Times: She Turned Her Audacious Lens on Herself, and Shaped the Future.
You can also read more about Laura in ARTnews: Laura Aguilar’s Lasting Legacy: How the World Caught Up to the Pioneering Photographer.
Laura’s photographs are stunning. If you’ve never seen her work, you can view some of her images in any of the links above.
Yours truly,
Doris
